New York  Show Car Starts Limited Run

The 2017 Mazda Miata MX-5 RF was the hit of the New York Auto Show this year. The retractable hardtop fastback takes the “fun” attitude of the soft top Miata and kicks it up a few notches by giving Miata lovers a new version of the old favorite. With beautiful fastback lines, the car converts from a closed coupe to an open air roadster at the touch of a button. Mazda is only making 1,000 of these beauties to start. Named the “Launch Edition,” this Miata RF gives preference to existing customers. It will have an exclusive color combination of Machine Gray Metallic on the outside and Auburn Nappa Leather on the interior. “MX-5 has enjoyed 27 years of being the world’s best-selling roadster, being named 2016 World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year and receiving hundreds, if not thousands of accolades,” according to Mazda senior VP Robert Davis. Existing customers will receive an email with instructions on how to purchase the new RF. For your chance at a certain collector’s item, contact the pros at Chapman Mazda on Bell Road.

Every Vehicle Made to Order

Don’t expect to see the new Launch Edition of the Miata RF showing up on dealership lots. Every car will be made to order, where the only option for customers is whether to pick a SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic. Along with special badging on the car, customers will also receive an exclusive numbered 42 mm watch made by Torneau. “Rarely does any automaker have a vehicle that garners the sort of loyalty and enthusiasm MX-5 generates–something we don’t take lightly,” Davis said. “MX-5 RF is the next chapter of this storied model line, and we can’t think of a better way to give back than to first offer this bespoke Launch Edition to those who have stuck with us, believing in our mission to deliver the best-driving vehicles on the road.”

Other RF Models Available Early 2017

Although the Launch Edition is a very limited run, the RF in other colors will be arriving at Chapman Mazda on Bell Road in the first part of 2017. Expect a quieter ride than with the soft top Miata, with the same thrills that made the Mazda Miata MX-5 the choice of those who want something fun to drive that doesn’t break the bank. “The cabin is luxurious and quiet when closed, and the rear roof produces a completely new open-air driving feel when the top is down,” said MX-5 program manager Nobuhiro Yamamoto. “I believe the MX-5 RF is a car that could only have been created at Mazda, where everyone involved in the creative process aspires to take on new challenges.”

Small Crossover Repeats as Best of Bunch

When it comes to comparing vehicles, the editors at Motor Trend magazine have a reputation for looking at all factors to help consumers make an informed decision. A recent test of compact crossover vehicles revealed that the Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring crossover is the best of the bunch. Excellent fuel economy, a sporty drive and top scores in performance testing had it topping a field that included the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and six other competitors. “Subjectively, the Mazda had one of the nicest cabins and excellent ride quality, and most important, we really enjoyed driving it,” said the Motor Trend review. CX-5 Provides Outstanding Value

When taking all factors into consideration, the Motor Trend editors found the CX-5 presented the best value of all the vehicles tested. “For those who value the journey over the destination, we’d give the nod to the CX-5, as it’s incredibly enjoyable to drive, luxurious, and comfortable,” they wrote. The Mazda CX-5 was also right on top in the safety evaluation, earning top scores from both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Ride and Handling Second to None

It’s always difficult for an automaker to provide a superior handling vehicle that also offers a cushiony ride. Motor Trend thought the CX-5 came the closest of all the tested vehicles, taking out the bumps of the highway while still giving the driver the feel of a sportster. “Out on our road loops, the Mazda offered up engaging, sporty handling with little body roll and little in the way of harshness from poor-quality roads,” read the review. This makes the CX-5 a perfect vehicle for daily commutes or a weekend run up a deserted highway. The ability to seat five adults comfortably while still storing plenty of gear puts the Utility in this CUV.

Honors Don’t Stop With Motor Trend

The Mazda CX-5 is the best reviewed Compact Utility Vehicle on the market, earning high praise from consumer entities such as Car and Driver magazine, Edmunds and U.S. News and World Report. The commitment to using quality materials while adhering to Mazda’s KODO Soul of Motion design philosophy make the CX-5 a favorite for people who like a little sophistication in their daily drive.
