With a design that is as elegant as it is simple, the Mazda CX-5 is the mid-size SUV that carries boxes without looking like one. Mazda’s KODO design philosophy starts with a block then strips away everything that isn’t necessary, leaving only the flowing lines and contours of a body in motion. Driving matters at Mazda, as you’ll see when you head to Chapman Mazda on Bell Road and take a test drive in the new Mazda CX-5.

Red CX-5 Screams Holiday Gift

Although the Mazda CX-5 comes in a number of brilliant colors, nothing screams “Holiday Gift” like a stunning Soul Red Crystal Metallic paint job. Top it off with a big red bow and that special someone in your life will have a holiday they’ll long remember. Starting at just $24,045, the Mazda CX-5 comes in four different trim levels offering features and prices that will fit most budgets. All the models come equipped with a peppy 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and scores an impressive 31 mpg on the highway. A smooth-shifting automatic transmission is also standard on all models, as is the Mazda CONNECT infotainment system that offers hands-free streaming and communications. The base Sport model even comes with a rearview camera, remote keyless entry, pushbutton start and LED headlamps.

Move up to the Touring model for a little more money and you get a 6-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats and leatherette seating surfaces enhanced by suede inserts. A leather-wrapped gear selector and leather-wrapped steering wheel add to the sophisticated interior. The Grand Select model provides a stunning Bose 10-speaker audio system that delivers concert quality sound, steering wheel audio controls, auto-leveling LED headlights and an adaptive front lighting system that leads the way around dark corners. From the Wankel rotary engine of decades ago to the current SKYACTIV motors that provide efficient and sporty power to its complete vehicle lineup, Mazda has been an unsurpassed innovator in the development of the internal combustion engine. That trend continues with the new SKYACTIV-X engine that is the second step in the company’s mission to produce an ideal internal combustion motor. By combining the best attributes of a gasoline engine with the compression ignition of a diesel engine, Mazda is creating a motor that not only has superior torque and fuel efficiency, but also surpasses modern lower emission requirements. See all the technology and innovation that makes Mazda a superior car company when you visit Chapman Mazda on Bell Road.

New Engine has 30 Percent More Torque

Torque is the feeling of acceleration you get when you tromp on the gas and take off from a stopped position. Measured in pound-feet, a SKYACTIV-X motor will deliver up to 30 percent more torque at certain revolutions per minute than the previous engine. That comes along with a 20 percent increase in fuel economy, or 30 percent if you frequently drive at low speeds, as you might do in city traffic. Mazda engineers developed a new method of combustion efficiency that boosts the ratio of air to fuel. Naturally, by igniting larger quantities of air, the amount of fuel needed to create the same propulsion force is reduced, meaning you spend less time at the gas pumps.

Improvement on Spark-controlled Ignition

In the traditional internal combustion engine, a spark from a spark plug ignites the fuel/oxygen mixture, providing the energy to propel the pistons and create drive. Mazda has developed a method of creating spark without a spark plug that is much more efficient, but doesn’t work at high speeds. The engineers found a compromise that allows the engine to switch back and forth between compression ignition and spark plug ignition as needed. They call this method Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) and it is the secret sauce that makes the new SKYACTIV-X engine so efficient. The new motor is part of the Mazda Jinba-ittai philosophy that believes the vehicle and driver are one integrated entitity. That’s what makes driving a Mazda so effortless and fun.

SKYACTIV Vehicle Architecture Delivers Driving Joy

Mazda believes the vehicle is really an extension of the driver’s body, so company engineers have designed everything from the wheels on up to enhance driving joy, safety and peace of mind. By analyzing human walking patterns, Mazda allows drivers to use the same balance in the vehicle as they do strolling down a street. The result is a natural, relaxing state that doesn’t put undue stress on the body or create exhaustion on a long drive. Feel the joy of Jinba-ittai and find your peace behind the wheel when you take a test drive at Chapman Mazda on Bell Road today.
